The RNC gains a high proportion of its funding from the government, but to offer the holistic support that helps blind and partially sighted people to achieve true independence, it must raise another £200,000 each year. Additionally, the College planned to build a new Hall of Residence, Dowdell Hall and needed to raise nearly £900,000 by September 2001. The fundraising team was committed and enthusiastic but lacked resources and experience. To compound the challenge, the Fundraising Manager had resigned. Just over half of the capital target had been raised.
Sandcliff advised on strategy and provided guidance and training, as well as hands-on, interim management. At the end of 6 months:
- The team was trained and confident in fundraising from a wide variety of sources and the RNC had a PR strategy
- Several significant trusts upgraded their support and many had given for the first time
