Ryder Care provides a range of palliative and neurological care
throughout the UK and abroad. Following Lady Ryder's death
in 2000, there was a period of instability with several management
changes. The current Chief Executive took up his post in 2001
and initiated a period of rebuilding and reform.
Sandcliff was commissioned
to undertake a complete review of all fundraising and associated
activities, prepare a strategy for the future development and provide
hands on management for a capital appeal in Aberdeen.
When the director of marketing
and fundraising decided to move on in early 2003, Tony Baxter was
asked to "hold the fort" and assist with the recruitment
and induction of a new director. Despite several attempts,
the charity failed to recruit. As this was a critical period
in Sue Ryder Care's development, Tony Baxter was asked to stay on
for a year to maintain stability and keep the charity driving forward
towards its strategic objectives.
The haemorrhaging of reserves
and increasing annual deficts have been reversed and the charity
is looking forward to a stable period of controlled growth.
A strong regional team has been created and the overall function
is well ahead of budget in the current financial year.
